Baileys & Maen are being boarded at Camalot Canine Resort now. It's near to our hotel. Thank God they still have a space left. Since BM are 'siblings' (so to speak), they are allowed to share that one space left.
They only take in boarding by appointments only, by the way.
We had to have our military passes done today and had to bring BM out early morning. I was expecting to face difficulties when we try entering base with the 2 furkids. And I never expected any stores to open at 8am.
They were opened when we called. And they were not a pet store or something. Camalot Canine Resort is a home, with part of it converted to dog boarding.
We went over to have a look before deciding and liked what we saw.
The nice elderly couple (I'm not too sure if they are a couple tho), Jim and Jo, showed us around. They have several kinds of boarding for different temperaments!
For the well socialised ones, they were allowed to roam in the garden and return to a large living space in what seemed like a living room (large one at that!) to sleep on their own bed. It's like the child care centre back in Singapore. hee. The furkids' beddings were laid side by side!
And for the shy ones (which I told them BM would likely be shy for this first time), they had cages. Large enough ones for them to walk around. If anyone of you have been to SPCA, the cages are large as that. And that's not all. Each cage has an extension out into the yard, their own extension that's not shared by dogs in the other cages. They get to walk out in the sun at selected times of the day!
Jim and Jo are VERY particular about the dogs' vaccinations so we had to get them vacinnated against rabies and the usual diseases before they would allow us to put them there.
We had to rush to base so we asked to leave them there in their crates till we return to bring them for their shots.
Both Jim & Jo were soooo helpful!! They called up their regular vet and made appointments for us so we need not have to worry about bringing them to the vet.
So off we went to base to meet the guys in there, get our passes done, and then for late breakfast before we went back for BM.
Jo said she's emptied BM's anal glands and that would be a gift for all of us. That was sooooo sweet of them! I was expecting their anal glands shld have been emptied that day when we sent them for grooming but Jo said their anal glands were full. hm...but whichever way it was, their anal glands are now cleared.
The vets there are really professional too! They have a varieties of shots but recommended me those that relevant to us more. We have to get them vaccinated against Rabies for sure. And then the 4-in-1. I think back in Sg, it's 5 or 6-in-1 right?
So they got rabies shot, and another against K9 distemper, Adenovirus, parainfluenza and parvovirus. Another would be Bordtella which the vet recommended if we were to board them to prevent them from getting infected by dogs during the course of boarding. The other viruses would be airborned.
Back in Singapore, I've never brought them for shots other than their puppy jabs and Prohart (heartworm preventive). Here I suppose, there are more dogs, and higher chances of them catching anything wierd. It's better to be safe than sorry. They even have shots against Rattlesnake bites which we did not take there and then. They have each gotten 4 jabs (I thought 4-in-1 meant 1 jab with 4 vaccines. Apparently it works differently here.) I didn't want them to go thru any more today. Just what's necessary and that'll be all for today.
They gave each of them dog biscuits as Dr Cammidge gave them their shots. Baileys ate away and forgot all about being pierced thru his skin. Maen was surprisingly the smarter one this time! She chewed and chewed and suddenly stopped while Dr.C was giving her each jab. She said Maen's the smarter one. She's the 1st to say Maen's the smarter one to Baileys! Frankly, Maen does appear smarter this time. hehe. Baileys was such a dear! He just kept chewing on his biscuits, as if trying to tell himself not to be aware of what's going on.
I asked Dr.C about Baileys' figure and she said, sharing the exact sentiments with Dr Chua at Allpets, that he's ok. Nice and good! I asked if he's skinny but she said he isn't. In fact he's just the right size as compared to most dogs who are overweight. She said MOST dogs are overweight and owners probably compare Baileys to their own dogs. She checked him all over and said he's healthy and well and that's all matters. Maen, on the other hand, can do with some exercising. hehe. The financial damage totalled up to USD$174. Please take note than from now on, every mention of prices will automatically be in USD unless otherwise stated. hehe.
After the vet visit, we brought them back to Camalot. Jo said that coz she adores Caveliers (they've got 2 Caveliers themselves), they'd charge us only $30 for both dogs. It was $20/dog initially when we called! Boarding is more expensive than Singapore's but for the type of living conditions, Mr Liow felt it's worth paying.
So for the next 10 days or so till our house is ready, they will be there. We'll be visiting them everyday to check on them. I know it's not the best choice we made but it's one the better ones. We can't leave them in the hotel while we get busy with settling in (all the running ard to get passes done, admin stuff settled etc). Don't want them to bark and get into trouble coz we still have the next 4 days in the hotel and few other days in Mr Liow's other colleague's apartment.
We took a slow walk to an Asian restaurant nearby for dinner. It was scary walking around in Tucson, in the dark. There wasn't any pedestrian walkway by the road so we had to walk on pebbles. Hmm....I miss Singapore....
I asked for Lo Mein Noodles (was telling Mr Liow I miss Lau Mee and there was this Lo Mein) which turned out to look nothing like the Lau Mee in Singapore. This was stir-fried noodles. Tasted quite nice tho but unique. The whole dish tasted sweet more than salty. Mr Liow had Terriyaki Chicken Rice. The chicken was good!!! If we do go back again, I'd go for the terriyaki chicken.
Back to the hotel we went. It's more freedom without BM around but I guess it's just the initial stage now when their presence is a little too much to handle. I can't wait to receive the keys to our new house. And then we can start housebreaking them again and settle them in properly.
That's abt all for today :`( And I really miss Singapore. I miss having dinner at Compasspoint, and having my dad drop by everyday :`(

I thought i would pop by to wish you's luck with the travelling. Please tell B&M i'm thinking of them.
Ails my human owner said she is exactly the same about me with my size but she got me checked out and the vet said i was fine, i was the right size too.

Yes I'm happier to hear from the vets. Do eat well but not too much ya? Dont' end up like Maen who needs more exercising.
