While grocery shopping one lovely day, a casual conversation turned fatal..
Man: "You go to the office and ask them why the landscapers are not here yet, and when they will be coming."
Woman, thinking about the foodstuff to sort out once they return & food to prepare for baby: "huh? Why can't you go?"
Man: "You go la. I'm a man. They will wonder why I can't upkeep the garden myself."
Woman: "Coz you are not a gardener and we pay them rent?"
Man: "You go la."
Woman: "Then you cook for baby lor."
Man: "Then you go work lor."
Analysis:
Woman sees the mountain of a week's groceries to sort back home. By the time they reach home, it won't be long before baby gets hungry, so woman has in mind to cook when they get back.
Office closes in the evening.
Woman thinks man can walk to office to ask the simple question while woman does the work (sorry...it's not work, it's a game).
Man thinks woman should do the simple thing of going to the office (coz man works?)
Woman wonders who will cook for baby. It is a practical request, if man can cook for baby since he wants her to walk to the office. That is an action that follows immediately upon arriving home. And, if man knows where to keep everything that's in those grocery bags.
Man wonders why woman refuses to do a simple thing like this. Thus asking, also a practical question. Why don't woman go work? Why? Is he going back to work on a long weekend?
When a request has nothing to do with what is expected to happen next, it naturally comes across as a personal attack.
Woman thinks and thinks, gets madder and madder, but walks over to the office anyway after a good game of sorting out groceries and putting food to the stove.
True enough, office is closed by the time woman walked over to ask the simple question.
Woman wonders why, while she was playing games in the kitchen, the man will not walk to the office.
Woman is upset. Woman is ALWAYS upset. Woman is unreasonable. Woman is not working, not contributing. Woman is having a good time at home. Woman is enjoying life as a tai tai.
But woman is starting to agree with man's request "then you go work lor."
So woman's reply to man's request (or was that a joke) ealier was, "I will", if that's what man wants.
